Training on managing the safety of agricultural and agri-food products: Projet d'Amélioration des Services Ruraux à travers le Développement de l'Agri-entrepreneuriat (Project to improve rural services through the development of agri-entrepreneurship)

Training in the second phase of support for producers continues. Our Six Sigma partner has provided training on the " Management of agricultural and agri-food product safety" module.

The aim was to get producers to understand the concept of agri-food and agricultural product safety, and to put in place processes to guarantee product safety.

The main issues addressed around this theme include:

  • How to identify and control food and agricultural product safety hazards?
  • What are the basic rules of hygiene and health in the production and processing of agricultural products, and how can these conditions be guaranteed?
  • What are the basic rules for preserving and packaging food and agricultural products?

To allow a better orientation of the training subjects and a fruitful exchange between the participants, the trainings were organized by category of producers:

  • Category 1: Crop production (sesame, rice, peanuts, vegetables, cotton, cassava, bananas, papaya, mangoes, etc.)
  • Category 2 : Animal production (pork, poultry, goats, sheep)
  • Category 3: Food processing (yoghurt, local beverages (alcoholic), sorrel juice, ginger juice, local spices, etc.).

This training phase will be followed by individual support over a period of three (03) months. This support consists of field follow-ups to monitor and evaluate the implementation of the training received by the producers, and to provide the necessary advice and guidance to guarantee the production and processing of healthy products for consumption.

The project aims to strengthen the resilience of rural producers by diversifying their sources of income. In concrete terms, the project will support 130 rural producers in the creation/structuring and management of agricultural and non-agricultural micro-enterprises in the target provinces of Logone Oriental and Mayo Kebbi Est.
